Ever wondered, at least while hearing the name of a beauty competition champion like Ms. Universe Aiswarya Rai, that on what basis the models are qualified and given the championship in the competition pageant…???

Followed by so many tests such as personality, general knowledge, stress handling, the contestants will go through a beauty checking process. So now here is the question. On what basis the contestants are evaluated?

The concept of beauty may differ from person to person. Still, there is a recognized measure to "mathematically" check “Beauty”. That is The Golden Ratio. The Golden ratio is a special number found by dividing a line into two parts so that the longer part divided by the smaller part is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer part.

It is often symbolized using phi, after the 21st letter of the Greek alphabet. In an equation form, it looks like this:

a/b = (a+b)/a = 1.6180339887498948420 …

It is an irrational value which can also be represented by ϕ = (1+(5)^0.5)/2

Around 1200, mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci discovered the unique properties of the Fibonacci sequence. This sequence ties directly into the Golden ratio because if you take any two successive Fibonacci numbers, their ratio is very close to the Golden ratio. As the numbers get higher, the ratio becomes even closer to 1.618. For example, the ratio of 3 to 5 is 1.666. But the ratio of 13 to 21 is 1.625. Getting even higher, the ratio of 144 to 233 is 1.618. These numbers are all successive numbers in the Fibonacci sequence.

The Golden ratio also appears in all forms of nature and science. Some unexpected places include:

Flower petals: The number of petals on some flowers follows the Fibonacci sequence. It is believed that in the Darwinian processes, each petal is placed to allow for the best possible exposure to sunlight and other factors.

Seed heads: The seeds of a flower are often produced at the center and migrate outward to fill the space. For example, sunflowers follow this pattern.

Pinecones: The spiral pattern of the seed pods spiral upward in opposite directions. The number of steps the spirals take tend to match Fibonacci numbers.

Sculptures and Paintings: Great painters like Da Vinci and ceramists like Picasso do care about the golden ratio to be included in their work.

Tree branches: The way tree branches form or split is an example of the Fibonacci sequence. Root systems and algae exhibit this formation pattern.

Shells: Many shells, including snail shells and nautilus shells, are perfect examples of the Golden spiral.

Spiral galaxies: The Milky Way has a number of spiral arms, each of which has a logarithmic spiral of roughly 12 degrees. The shape of the spiral is identical to the Golden spiral, and the Golden rectangle can be drawn over any spiral galaxy.

Hurricanes: Much like shells, hurricanes often display the Golden spiral.

Fingers: The length of our fingers, each section from the tip of the base to the wrist is larger than the preceding one by roughly the ratio of phi.

Animal bodies: The measurement of the human navel to the floor and the top of the head to the navel is the Golden ratio. But we are not the only examples of the Golden ratio in the animal kingdom; dolphins, starfish, sand dollars, sea urchins, ants and honeybees also exhibit the proportion.

DNA molecules: A DNA molecule measures 34 angstroms by 21 angstroms at each full cycle of the double helix spiral. In the Fibonacci series, 34 and 21 are successive numbers.

Modern Technology and even its logos: The new and innovative companies nowadays try to include the golden mean in their products as well as in their ads. Research shows that it carry the magic to attract the eye vision to look at it.

This is how the golden ratio is technically used in measuring the “amount of beauty”.

Emotions are strong feeling deriving from one’s circumstances, mood or relationship with others. We as teenagers always undergo a havoc of emotions inside us. It’s all because of the hormonal changes happening in our bodies. Most of the emotions come out of good or weird relationships with the people around, hardly there are emotions which come up from one’s own actions. Being an emotional person is considered good or bad depending on the situation ahead of the person. These days, the number of people (mostly youngsters) who are suffering from chronic depression is alarming! What is the reason behind people going into depression? Why are people becoming more emotionless and feeling less? The reason for all the above-mentioned questions is quite deep and shocking. These emotions such as sadness, loneliness and all don’t affect the person because of a single incident that took place in their life. All these emotions arise because of, they suppressing their emotions.

In each and every person’s life, there will be n number of incidents which would have left a great impact on their mind. But if there is nobody to properly support them and guide them to come out of any such situation, the result is either depression or loss of self-confidence. To overcome such problems one solution is: sharing the emotions and problems with someone who knows the person, it can be parents or friends. The second option is: consulting a psychiatrist, where the whole society thinks that person is mad/crazy, which in turn increases the difficulty of the person going through it.

The most preferred are talking to friends’ n family. Here parents and friends play a very vital role. As a child is most close to his/her parents, it’s the duty of the parents to find time for their kids and make sure their child is content and happy. If not parents, then it’s Friends who can help. It’s when one doesn’t get aid from either family or friends that he/she ends up going to a psychiatrist. 

We as humans are blessed by the Almighty to be able to express and convey to others what we feel. But if we are not making the best use of this so powerful and best means of conveying ourselves and our ideas to others, then we are not doing justice to ourselves. So, my dear Friends and Readers, we get only one life to live, just make it worthwhile and happy. The only means to be happy and content is by expressing ourselves to all of those whom we know and care for!

The error on Friday caused the social network to show a memorial banner on user profiles for people who were still alive, including Mark Zuckerberg.

Despite being very much alive, Facebook users, when logged on to their accounts on Friday afternoon, found their accounts turned to a "memorialized account," strongly suggesting that they are dead to everyone who visits their profile.Users posted status updates to reassure friends and family they were not dead, despite Facebook's message.

The bug which appeared read that “We hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life.” 

Facebook said that “For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts. This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it.”

The moon doesn’t get much bigger and brighter than this. On Monday, Earthlings will be treated to a so-called supermoon. That’s the closest full moon of the year or every 14 months to be precise.

Monday’s supermoon will be extra super, it will be the closest the moon comes to us in almost 69 years. And it won’t happen again for another 18 years, with the next one projected to occur on Nov. 25, 2034.

NASA says closest approach will occur at 6:21 a.m. EST when the moon comes within 221,523 miles from the center of the Earth to the center of the moon. The Full moon will occur at 8:52 a.m. EST.

NASA planetary geologist Noah Petro is urging everyone to step outside and soak in the view. Prime viewing will be Sunday and Monday nights.

Stargazers were able to catch sight of the last supermoon on Oct. 16. Another supermoon sighting is expected on Dec. 14.

When a full moon makes its closest approach to Earth, it appeared bigger and brighter than usual and is known as a supermoon. According to NASA, a supermoon appears to be between 14 percent and 30 percent brighter than a traditional full moon.

Stargazers got a double celestial treat in late September 2015 when a total lunar eclipse combined with a so-called supermoon.

It was the first time the events have made a twin appearance since 1982, and they won’t again until 2033.

On the night of 8 November, Modi, in a shock announcement, ordered the withdrawal designed to tackle widespread corruption and tax evasion. Modi said that while people could exchange their old notes for new bills at banks or post offices until the end of the year, or deposit them in their accounts, they would no longer be legal tender from midnight the same day.

According to Twitter analytics website Twittercounter, Narendra Modi’s Twitter account (@narendramodi) lost 3,13,312 followers a day after the currency ban announcement was made. However, there was again a big rise in the follower count the very next day; the account (@narendramodi), has over 24.3 million followers on the social platform at present.

On 10 November, the account gained 4,30,128 followers.

Moreover, the officials who worked on the demonetisation plan were kept under quarantine.

In many places we see corporate and other offices built with glass all around the building. Did you ever know the reason behind it?

They say "We're always open and you can see what we are doing, it is for you, there is nothing to hide."

The saying itself makes some sense in this scenario. But I would like to pose a question. Is it really necessary to build buildings out of glass.

In India, it is absolutely NOT. Why?

Usually most of the corporates are multinational and come from the West. Due to their climate and geographical conditions they are more prone to low temperatures. They need warmth, because of that they build buildings covered with glass. In one way it helps in saving the electricity by letting in sufficient sunlight into the building. A glass is a bad conductor of heat. This principle is used to make the buildings warmer.

But the same scenario is different in India and other tropical countries. These countries usually have relatively more temperatures when compared with the Western countries. This makes them a bit warmer on normal days too. In addition to that, the glass makes the buildings even more warmer making it impossible to stay in. To avoid that, we establish cooling systems which needs to run continuously without any break 24x7 all though the year. This increases the carbon footprint which in turn causes a great threat in the form of pollution. So, we better think in a different way to build our corporate offices in the near future.
